Redback soles are made with (TPU) thermoplastic polyurethane. The use of this plastic/rubber material in making shoe soles is beneficial in many ways; it is durable, resistant to chemicals, high temperatures, oil and solvents. It also provides plenty of traction and impact absorption making being on your feet all day more comfortable. 

There is however a downside to using this excellent material and that downside is a process of deterioration called hydrolysis. This is why we always recommend keeping your boots dry and in a cool, well ventilated area and that you wear the boots on a regular basis. Hydrolysis occurs when water molecules are trapped within the TPU substrate and are unable to escape. The physical action of walking (compressing and flexing the rubber) helps release the water molecules from the TPU. If water molecules accumulate in the TPU, chemical deterioration is also accelerated. In extremis, this can result in TPU failure in the form of crumbling or splitting. These issues are not generally covered by our warranty hence why we emphasize the importance of regular cleaning, drying and maintenance of your Redback boots.

So to summarize, if you keep you boots clean and dry and you wear them regularly, they will last a really long time. We have many customers returning to us for their second pair of Redback boots after five years or more. We have seen plenty of good examples lasting over 10 years.

Introducing the new Redback Robe.

Our new Redback Robe is an over-size over-coat that is ideal for wide range of outdoor activities including spectator events, riding, wild swimming or for any activity where staying warm is paramount. 

The Robe features a water resistant and windproof outer layer that will keep the occasional downpour at bay. The inside of the Robe features a substantial and warm fleece lining that will keep you toasty in all but the worst conditions. Due to the generous proportions of the Robe, getting changed outdoors is a simple and comfortable task and was one of the main reasons for the creation of this garment. 

To keep you extra warm, the Robe features Velcro closure on the sleeves and to keep things practical, the Robe features a large inner pocket to keep your documents/ money/snacks (or a spare pair of underwear) safe and secure. The front and back feature a large, embroidered Redback logo, to show your support.

We would like to say thank you to everyone that took part in our Redback Boots competition - we really enjoyed reading all your competition entries. There were some weird ones, some funny ones and some entertaining ones, which made it very difficult for us to pick the winners. However, after much deliberation, we managed to whittle down the entries to the winning three. 

Our first winner is Nathan with this short poem:

"If I don’t get myself some Redback boots soon, my horses are going to start a petition. They’re tired of watching me slide around like Bambi on ice every time the ground’s wet, and frankly, they’re embarrassed for me. We are excited to announce the long awaited arrival of the new range of dress boots from Redback. These should be in stock by next week.

The new "Whistler" boots feature a more refined, lower profile footprint and toe box as well as a more refined leather upper. Unlike the classic Redback work boot, the rubber sole has been thinned and reshaped for a smarter appearance but still provides plenty of traction on slippery surfaces. For added comfort and a smarter finish the Whistler features a calfskin lining making for a more refined boot. 

The dress boot will initially be offered in three colour variants with some really subtle texturing and a more pronounced sheen as compared with the classic Redback range. This makes them great for more formal occasions when paired with smart jeans or trousers.
